Originally from Ohio, Nathan Helfrich relocated to Montana in 1986. He earned a Master of Architecture from Montana State University in 2001 — while gaining experience in residential construction — and began his professional career soon thereafter with a small residential firm at the scenic Sea Ranch on the northern California coast. In 2005, Nathan heeded the call back to Montana, accepted a position with a large architecture and engineering firm, and developed a wealth of experience working on a variety of projects across multiple states. He joined the Bechtle Architects team in 2023.
Drawing portraits from a young age, Nathan grew up with a passion for the arts and an early commitment to entering a creative field of work. He believes in the visceral experience inherent in architecture, asserting that the built environment has a direct influence on the quality of life for its users and occupants.
Outside of the office, Nathan enjoys sketching, mountain biking, hiking, hunting, camping, and traveling with his wife and dog, always in search of the next great destination.
